A Y strainer valve is a pipe fitting that has a metal, mesh, or wedge wire strainer attached to it that strains and filters liquid while separating it from solid matter. By catching solids at specific points in the pipeline, unwanted debris is prevented from moving further down the line, where it could damage a valve or cause other problems. As a result, downtime and maintenance are reduced. Strainers are typically used in pressurized gas or liquid lines where small amounts of solids are expected and clean-outs are infrequent.
